This is a black finish Hourglass Gauntlets known to be commonly used during 14th century battles. It offers good protection of hands as it is made of 16 gauge thick steel plate, the plate protects the back of the hand from hard blows. We have installed a 5 finger leather glove which offers better grip for carrying and fighting with weapon. The leather belt offers additional protection to the palm, the fingers of the gauntlets are made from 18 gauge steel. Good gauntlets. Solid leather glove. One item was the leather strap the plates are riveted into was a bit light, and one or two plates "popped" off. But a good Oil tanned leather 4mm would hold forever, which i used for the repair. They were very good in replying on the issue and offered support on repairs.
Looks and works great, well put together.
This gauntlets are as good as you are going to get for the price. Two things keep it from getting 5 stars. The plates for one of the thumbs was riveted too far from the fingers. It still works but not as good as it could be. The some of the stitching holding the gloves to the plates broke after the second use. Not thrilled about that, but it was easy enough to repair.
For the price I can't complain. A little modification and it will all be good
These gauntlets appear solid and they fit my large hands. The cuff is a bit tight and I’d prefer longer cuffs on the leather gloves. Shipping is high, but fairly fast.
